So, is it OK to take school kids on field trip to a sex toy store in the name of sex education?

Apparently  at Gaia Democratic School in Minneapolis it is acceptable....Well, it is a "Private" school.

     The Sex education teacher who took the kids on the field trip, also the schools director, (how convenient) would not talk to Fox 9 news when asked to comment on the field trip...Humm Wonder why. 

     “Gaia is a private school that provides holistic educational services to students K-12 with emphasis on democratic process, individualized instruction, academic freedom, self-motivation, cooperative learning, youth empowerment, and environmental stewardship. We are part of an education movement that has a long, fascinating history and a vibrant, viable future.”

  The school board posted a letter to its website saying it stands behind the field trip and it views it as a legitimate learning experience that relates directly to topics covered during a year-long sexual health class.
     The owner of the Smitten Kitten said in a statement, “the store is a resource for sound science based sex-ed information, and leaves it up to parents and guardians to use their discretion when seeking resources.”

     Floyd, THE PARENT,  said he didn't know anything about the trip before it was already over. Seems to me, it was not "Left Up To The Parent" as to what sex education resources are sought out...Or was it? "

     I do not believe that a field trip to the "Smitten Kitten" was an appropriate school field trip, and it was especially inappropriate if the parents were unaware of it until after it had already taken place. That being said, I also do not think it appropriate for parents to abdicate their responsibility to teach their own kids about sex & human sexuality! This is just one example of why certain areas of PARENTING should not be done or expected to be done by the school system!(public or private) Maybe parents need to re-evaluate what they feel needs to be taught in schools and what should be taught at home...by them!

     I would think that it would draw plaudits from EVERY TAX PAYING CITIZEN of this country! It should be something that that Every State should get behind and adapt. It is a start! a good start but ONLY A START!

Feeling the Need to be DISABLED?

     If you feel the need to be a different sex than the way you were born you call yourself transgendered and change your sex like Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner.
     So now, if you feel like you should be Disabled but are not, you call yourself TRANSABLED and cut off a limb... Make Yourself Disabled!!!

      REALLY? I am sure I can say with much certainty, that there are many disabled people out there that wish they were not disabled and if they could  make themselves whole and not have their disability they would choose to do so.       Someone PLEASE logically explain to me WHY would someone WANT, On Purpose, to make themselves disabled? Do they dislike their lot in life so much that they think being disabled would be better? Do they thrive on other peoples attention so much and find this is the best way to get that attention?

PATHOLOGIZING: regard or treat (someone or something) as psychologically abnormal or unhealthy.

     Normal people who have relatively healthy minds will want to be healthy and normal with functioning limbs. 

    The operative words there are Normal & Relatively Healthy.   We are making great strides at opening up conversations and making mental illness not as stigmatized in an effort that people who suffer from mental illness can and will get the help they need. It seems to me that we need to help people that have these feelings of a need to be physically disabled, figure out why they have these feelings and get the mental health help they need so they do not feel the only way to feel good is to mutilate their perfectly good bodies to the point of disability.  When people engage in cutting, we look at the emotional & psychological reasons why they engage in this destructive, physically mutilating  behavior and work to help them deal with the psychological reasons for their behavior to help end the destructive behavior. We do not say that it is just part of who they are and therefore OK...should be treated as "Normal". This is beyond even cutting...This is major mutilation and in my opinion not actions of Normal & Relatively Normal Minds. 

Bruce/ Caitlyn & Olympic Glory

     Then Bruce wanted to be a Caitlyn but was not... So he competed, and won as Bruce... Then. Good for him! Now he "is" Caitlyn.  The IOC wants to take away accomplishments made by Bruce when he was Bruce because he felt more like he should be a Caitlyn...but the fact of the matter is...HE WAS BRUCE THEN!!! Regardless of who  he is now, That was then this is now. Chances are if He competed as a she in the Olympics back then, He/She would have beat the woman's events and won gold.
     Bottom Line: Physically he was a he when he won Olympic gold back then. He should not have his medals and achievements that he earned as a he back then stripped just because he felt like he should have been a she.
     Now for the genetic factor: The sex of most mammals, including humans, is genetically determined by the XY sex-determination system where males have X and Y    If you look at Caitlyn Jenner's genetic code, it says XY... Male...Same as what it was when he earned the Olympic medals. He/She should be able to keep his achievements!

     "INADVERTENTLY" being the operative word here! I am so sick and tired of the government being behind things that "inadvertently" happen... The last one was "live anthrax" being inadvertently sent to labs when it was supposed to be the "dead" virus
     The latest:
According to Reuters, the U.S.-made weaponry that fell into enemy hands including 2,300 Humvee armored vehicles, at least 40 M1A1 main battle tanks, 74,000 machine guns, and as many as 52 M198 howitzer mobile gun systems, plus small arms and ammunition.

     What that means: Not in terms of fire power that we have now supplied ISIS with but lets look past that:

2,300 Humvee armored vehicles @ $70,000 per - Total: $16 million
40 M1A1 Abram tanks @ $4.3 million per - Total: $172 million
52 M198 Howitzer mobile gun systems @ $527,337 per - Total: $2.7 million
74,000 Army machine guns @ $4,000 per - Total: $29 million
The grand total comes to $219.7 million

 So not only are we "inadvertently" supplying ISIS with weapons and fire power to use against the U.S. and allied forces, it is also a minimum of $219.7 million government waste. I know in the grand scheme of things with deficits being in the TRILLIONS of dollars $219.7 million may not seem like all that high of a cost waste but really, every dollar counts. 

 

     Now lets deal with "INADVERTENTLY"

  Weather we have kids in school or not we all pay some taxes to the school districts that we live in. I remember when I was first married and had kids and we qualified for reduced lunches. I also remember being "just above the threshold" of qualifying and what a struggle it was sometimes... it always seemed that it was cheaper then to pack a lunch for the kids than have them get a hot lunch at school. I also remember forgetting to send a check to add money to my children's lunch tickets. (not to mention I had to write 3 checks, one for each child's account) 

     I do not think that any of my children ever experienced getting lunch thrown out and given a "cheese" sandwich for not having enough money on their tickets for lunch because none of them ever let me forget to write the check more than one day in a row. That being said...I am appalled that school cafeterias are not only wasting good decent food that my and your tax dollars pay for and at the same time denying a growing child proper nutrition for their day at school because the lunch ticket is in negative funds. 

     I know that the notices that money is running out on the ticket or ticket is overdrawn get lost by kids, or the kids forget to give parents notices, not to mention that sometimes the first notice from the school was not a low balance notice but a negative notice balance. I also know that sometimes emergencies happen and those families that are just on the border of getting free or reduced lunches and not sometimes have financial emergencies and need  a couple of days grace ( I know because I have been there)  I also know that most parents who's children's lunch tickets run in the arrears do not let this happen on purpose... on the contrary, most of them are truly horrified when they find out and make things right as soon as possible. 

      Sometimes it is a matter of putting limitations on the card like only one lunch a day... (only buy your own) Maybe it is as simple of finding an alternate way of notifying parents of low or negative ticket balances such as a mass email going out to those parents when a low or negative account balance is flagged in the system (this could be an easy program to implement since so much is computerized these days)  

     Regardless of what the solution to the ticket issue is I can tell you that it is not throwing out perfectly good food and replacing it with a "cheese" sandwich.  I also do not think the cafeteria worker that feels children should have good nutrition for their school day should fired for providing that. 

      I think this is a contradiction of society. In our society,  we have gone from food vouchers for food stamps to a "debit" type card  so food stamp recipients do not feel the "shame" or humiliation  of needing to be on food stamps (a whole other issue I will not get into) but we are willing to humiliate a child with a sub standard nutritional lunch because they are negative in their account (usually by no fault of the child) 

FIX the notification system to reduce the instances of low or negative balances on lunch tickets

FIX the system by which we determine the criteria for free or reduced lunch 

DO NOT throw out perfectly good food and give a  growing child CRAP to meet their nutritional needs of the day and DO NOT fire those who care about the children and their needs... It is usually not the child's fault they have low or negative balance on their lunch tickets.
